Bio
If you’re interested (you’re on the About page, so I suppose you might be), here are some career milestones that shaped me and influenced my approach to storytelling on the timeline.
News & Deadline Discipline
Back in 2003, I was green and overconfident and began my editing career in broadcast news, sports and entertainment packages for The Guardian-owned Channel M TV in Manchester. This rude awakening gave me a rock-solid foundation in how to structure clear, concise stories within strict duration constraints and very unmissable daily deadlines.
It taught me how to craft clear, concise stories under brutal deadlines — and gave me a rock-solid foundation for everything that came next.
From Fact to Fiction
A year in Sydney had me working on narrative dramas, meeting brilliant editors, and learning the ropes of serial storytelling.
Then my visa ran out and I had to return to the UK. Fair dinkum.
Early Social Media & London Agencies
I landed in London to start traipsing around Soho. This is where I started landing agency projects and had loads of fun making some proto social media 'viral' videos with (now defunct) brands like Phones4U and (now split) bands like One Direction.
Moving into an in-house position at a huge independent PR agency where I went on some mad adventures in places like Nigeria where we were escorted with security with machine guns and collaborated with seriously intelligent and talented teams to plan, shoot, and edit videos for the agency and the massive brands they collaborated with.
PR was a mind-blowing experience, where I absorbed how news can be created, narratives moulded through clever strategy, and attitudes changed through intelligent and pinpoint audience targeting. It also helped me be able to translate a lot of corporate speak.
Broadcast Features & Sports
Turning to freelance work has led me to meet fantastic teams and opportunities with ambition. I feel fortunate to have been trusted to work on some significant moments, particularly in sports.
Highlights include working on the award-winning documentary 'Gazza', the official Tokyo 2020 Olympics closing film, and broadcast features for UEFA Champions League — real once-in-a-lifetime projects.
I live just outside London in full-on suburbia Paddock Wood, with my wife Dani, our daughter, and our little dog, too.
